CoBRAIN in PROPLANET Consortium Meeting: Strengthening Collaboration Ahead of COATINGS 2026 Conference
- October 22, 2025
This week, the CoBRAIN Project joined the PROPLANET Project Consortium Meeting, held on 21–22 October, in a joint effort to reinforce cooperation and foster strategic alignment between the two European research initiatives. The meeting brought partners together to discuss ongoing progress, share insights and explore ways to maximise synergy as both projects approach their final stages.
CoBRAIN, an EU-funded research initiative focused on the development of advanced thermal spray coatings and sustainable materials solutions, used the occasion to exchange scientific findings and collaboration opportunities with the multi-disciplinary PROPLANET consortium. PROPLANET’s work centres on the design and optimisation of innovative coatings that are safe and sustainable by design (SSbD), targeting industrial sectors such as textiles, food packaging machinery and glass while addressing environmental and health concerns associated with conventional coating technologies.
During the meeting, participants emphasised the importance of cross-project coordination in advancing sustainable materials science and preparing for broader dissemination of results. The gathering served as a platform to align project activities with industry needs and to contribute to a shared vision of future-ready, environmentally responsible surface technologies.
Both consortia also highlighted their upcoming joint engagement in COATINGS 2026: Safe and Sustainable by Design Surface Treatment and Coatings, an international conference scheduled to take place from 20–22 April 2026 in Athens, Greece, co-organised by EXELISIS IKE and MDPI. The event is set to convene leading researchers, industry professionals and innovators from around the world to present cutting-edge advancements in coatings and surface engineering, with a strong emphasis on lifecycle safety, sustainability and the transition toward environmentally responsible materials.
COATINGS 2026 will feature keynote lectures, technical presentations, poster sessions and panel discussions covering topics ranging from metallic and hybrid coatings to artificial-intelligence-driven design tools and strategies for phasing out substances of concern. The conference will also offer publication opportunities in special journal issues and recognise outstanding contributions with several awards.
With both CoBRAIN and PROPLANET poised to showcase their final results at this landmark event, the consortium meeting marked a significant step toward consolidating collaborative efforts and ensuring that European research achievements in sustainable coatings will be prominently featured on the international stage.

CoBRAIN project has officially launched!
On 24th – 25th of January EXELISIS participated in the hybrid kick-off meeting, of the CoBRAIN project, hosted by UNIMORE in Modena of Italy. CoBRAIN is a HorizonEU project funded by the EU under the topic Advanced materials modelling and characterisation.
EXELISIS is leading activities related to IPR Management and Dissemination & Communication activities under WP7, which were presented along with some guidelines for a successful D&C strategy.
