CoBRAIN Featured at Aachen Surface Engineering Colloquium

On 5 December 2025, Dr.-Ing. Sven Hartmann of OBZ Innovation GmbH delivered a prominent presentation at the Aachen Surface Engineering Colloquium, an annual forum hosted by the Institut für Oberflächentechnik (IOT) at RWTH Aachen University in Aachen, Germany. The colloquium, known for bringing together experts from research, industry and academia to discuss advances in surface engineering, featured current research topics, innovative methodologies and their industrial applications in materials, processes and coatings technologies.

Dr.-Ing. Hartmann’s presentation, titled “Innovative Products, Fast Implementation of New Research Results”, showcased how cutting-edge research findings are being translated into practical industrial solutions. His talk highlighted the progress of the CoBRAIN project and its role in bridging laboratory research with real-world surface engineering challenges.

CoBRAIN is an EU-funded initiative designed to integrate computational and experimental data using advanced semantic and machine-intelligence methods to accelerate the development of next-generation surface protection solutions. The project aims to support the creation of intelligent tools for proposing novel high-entropy hard-metal materials and predicting their performance for thermal spray and other industrial coating processes. By leveraging data-driven approaches, CoBRAIN seeks to reduce development times and enhance material performance in wear and corrosion protection applications that are vital across energy, aerospace and automotive industries.

The Aachen Surface Engineering Colloquium itself provided a platform for interdisciplinary exchange and networking, drawing participants from scientific and industrial sectors to discuss recent advancements and future trends in surface technology.

CoBRAIN project has officially launched!

On 24th – 25th of January EXELISIS participated in the hybrid kick-off meeting, of the CoBRAIN project, hosted by UNIMORE in Modena of Italy. CoBRAIN is a HorizonEU project funded by the EU under the topic Advanced materials modelling and characterisation.

EXELISIS is leading activities related to IPR Management and Dissemination & Communication activities under WP7, which were presented along with some guidelines for a successful D&C strategy.
